An occasional view on the Isle of Wight. From one little treasure, Wighteye’s Jack Russell, to another, this flint fossil of a sea urchin. Found when dog walking on the stony banks of the river Medina at low tide, it’s markings are amazing; it’s a little compacted in shape, but easily recognisable. May 1, 2012. Isle of Wight behind on GCSEs. January 14, 2010 at 2:15 pm. GCSE students on the Island are still lagging behind their national counterparts. Figures show 41.6 per cent of Island students achieved five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C, including English and maths, compared to 41.3 per cent last year and 50.7 per cent nationally. Of local education authority-run schools, Carisbrooke High was top performer, with 51 per cent of students reaching the benchmark standard. Read more at Isle of Wight County Press.

WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH. January 5, 2010 at 11:27 am. Christmas and the New Year holidays may well be a distant memory, but that doesn’t mean that rubbish collection is back to normal yet. If you (like many others) made the mistake of putting your rubbish out on Monday or yesterday expecting it to be collected then you might want to read on. As you’ll see from the table below, this week the collection is still two days later than usual and as of next week, collections will be one day later than usual.

My fairies have developed over the past 23 years and are individually handmade from galvanised wire netting. Approximately 11 tall, they will not rust but will darken slightly, over time. No two fairies are exactly the same, and I don't use any machinery in the process, just pliers and a hammer. Let your imagination run riot! Red wine and chocolate.
