Home made cakes and home grown children. Posted by snoozerider in art. This last week, the boys have been learning about the artist Henri Matisse. We started by reading “ Drawing with Scissors”. And also watched an excellent BBC documentary “ Modern Masters Matisse. 8220; And of course, we got stuck in by doing our own art in the style of Matisse. The boys made Matisse inspired collages:. Although Gman had trouble grasping the big, bold shapes concept at first! 8221; book mentioned in this. Email check f...

Home-made cakes and home-grown children. Thursday, 31 March 2011. Boning up on Bones. As you might be able to tell from the books in our Library Thing sidebar, we are learnig about bones at the moment. It all started with this. It says it's aimed at 5-9 year olds, but Gman (11) has equally enjoyed doing the experiments and singing the bone song. Sample verse (to the tune of "She'll be Coming Round the Mountain":. Yes, my bones need calcium phosphate so they'll grow (uh, huh). Or they'd never ca-ci-fi-cate.

Just another WordPress.com site. Elliot’s not first week at school →. September 5, 2014. Being a stay-at-home-mum is often rewarding, but sometimes there are days when it feels like we didn’t achieve anything. N will come home from work and ask “what did you do today? 8221; and the answer will feel inadequate – “nothing” or “we went to asda” or “the kids just played”. Here’s my list:. Put a load of washing on. Got breakfast for 3 children. Sorted nappies (we use washable ones) and put them away. Still wh...

Just another WordPress.com site. Sunday rest (at the park! July 5, 2014. So off we went to Broken Scar with a picnic, wellies and spare clothes! Climbed up to the top of the bird’s nest climbing frame thingy and then wanted to slide down the central pole. Lovely (and only slightly frightening) to see him becoming more able and trying things that a couple of months ago he would have been far too scared of. Working to maintain freedom in education. Thursday, 26 April 2012. Lincolnshire County Council delusional about Statutory duties re Elective Home Education. Staffordshire: Consultation on the revised statutory guidance on children missing education for local authorities
http://maire-staffordshire.blogspot.com/2012/12/consultation-on-revised-statutory.html
Working to maintain freedom in education. Monday, 17 December 2012. Consultation on the revised statutory guidance on children missing education for local authorities. Just had a very quick glance at what I assume is the revised guidance. Although it didn't seem to be labelled as such. This bit jumped out immediately, could be helpful or could be problematic. It is a very simple consultation form, very different from the leading questions and hidden agenda of the ones we are used to. If a request for dis...

Working to maintain freedom in education. Monday, 17 October 2011. An excellent summary of home education law. One of the submissions to the select committee stood out for me as a very good explanation of the law around home education, which thank goodness did not change, so I am posting it here together with a link to all the submissions. Just in case anyone wants to follow me down memory lane or learn for the first time what the LA's really think of us and want from us. 3 The person conducting the revi...
