This is a neat little hack and apparently boosts conversion rates quite significantly.

However, the prospect of typesetting, exporting, and then uploading every formula seemed quite daunting. I started to look into MathML and if any browsers supported it without external plugins but I was sorely disappointed. I did however find a reference to a Javascript library called MathJax. That can seemingly render anything: TeX/MathML/ASCIIMath notation to canvas or SVG.
