April 21, 2014. A couple of weeks ago, thanks to a passage in Fr. James Martin’s. Jesus, A Pilgrimage. I spent some extra time in prayer reflecting on my tendency to linger in the tomb, even while Jesus was intent on unbinding me and setting me free! Odd, isn’t it? A now, here it is again, that tomb! I reject the Deceiver. I believe in God. I found myself transposed from the confines of that tomb, transplanted into that. Galilee of my first love. That angel sitting there has one message: Do not be afraid!

Lately, I have been especially aware of how words can hurt. I’m a big fan of Pope Francis. He talks a lot about mercy, compassion, the culture of encounter, friendship, and walking together. June 9, 2014. I think we all know that the term “Ordinary Time” is a type of sacramental oxymoron. J. S. Bach, in 1708 was spot on with “Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit! 8221; –. God’s Time is the best. Or, I would say, in God’s plan, all time is holy, therefore, extraordinary! I know that tonight when I climb into bed, I will be grateful for the freshness. So why not now, all through the process, all through the minutes of this Monday morning labor of laundering bedding and towels? God In All Things.

Today I try to remind myself that the place to begin is the human heart of God-and-us. Existential reality is where God took on flesh; shouldn’t we, too? The only glimmer of hope is the small progress I can claim in at least being conscious of it, and sometimes being able to catch myself in the act and let go of it.
