Why we Party: a brief history  – Daniel Rovira

https://writeonwriteon.wordpress.com/2016/12/27/why-we-party-a-brief-history

Cultural Crossovers, Spiritual Solutions, Gratitude and Faith. Why we Party: a brief history. December 27, 2016. Let us not forget that modern Christianity was partly a Roman expression, shaped by its culture and practices. Roman culture is synonymous with excess. This was particularly true when they hosted a dinner party (a convivial). They even had a party god called Bacchus, who was known for his unrestrained consumption! Wine was a binding force to Romans, it offered the illusion of equality, democra...

The Most Difficult Truth – Daniel Rovira

https://writeonwriteon.wordpress.com/2016/11/29/the-most-difficult-truth

Cultural Crossovers, Spiritual Solutions, Gratitude and Faith. The Most Difficult Truth. November 29, 2016. October 27, 2016. I have met many people in my life who are unhappy. They are unhappy because they feel that life is beyond their control. Life is happening to them: they are a victim. They talk through a list of disasters that has befallen them. I say to them: “What have you done to change this? 8221; They look at me and say: “How can I change this? It’s not that easy to do! Enter your comment here.

My Dad, the Cock, and other Cunning Stunts. – Daniel Rovira

Cultural Crossovers, Spiritual Solutions, Gratitude and Faith. My Dad, the Cock, and other Cunning Stunts. November 22, 2016. October 17, 2016. Spoonerisms have become more fashionable over time, and as enthusiasts as mean as custard have experimented with them, they can sometimes take more concentration to work out. What book is A Sale of Two Titties? What is a Bottle in front of me? And what really is a Cozy, little nook? All this happens to adults too. I remember calling an older teacher ‘babe’&#4...

The Potency of Potential  – Daniel Rovira

https://writeonwriteon.wordpress.com/2016/12/20/__trashed

Cultural Crossovers, Spiritual Solutions, Gratitude and Faith. The Potency of Potential. December 20, 2016. December 4, 2016. We all have the potential to be extraordinary. I believe that now more than ever but first let me qualify what I mean by the word ‘extraordinary’. To be extraordinary is not to achieve material success, or rack up a thousand friends on Facebook, or live in a house bigger than your neighbour’s. How can we rise above the tedium of everyday living, and become extraordinary? You are a...

My Camera and I – Daniel Rovira

https://writeonwriteon.wordpress.com/2017/01/03/my-camera-and-i

Cultural Crossovers, Spiritual Solutions, Gratitude and Faith. My Camera and I. January 3, 2017. December 29, 2016. Snap Woman with basket on her head? The camera is a barrier between me and them. A demarcation. I am separate to them. I am the observer and they the observed, as if a painting in a gallery or a vase in a museum. I mustn’t get too close. They are Roland Barthes’s punctum. They are orientalised. The camera is imperial. I repeat: it is a weapon. I point and patronise. I infant...Instead of le...

I guess those British people must have an advantage when it comes to fantasy writing. The U.S. just makes a terrible setting for a fantasy story. Must be why I’m rarely impressed with a fantasy book written by an American writer (e.g., Rick Riordan). One Response to “Book 56: Shadowmancer by G. P. Taylor (2003)”. January 14, 2009 at 4:30 pm. Three Books and a Movie. Book 60: Dragon Ball by Akira Toriyama. December 12, 2007 — threebooksandamovie. I’m going to devote this entry to the entire series. You see, for about two weeks now I have been rereading and rereading the manga that I am becoming so obsessed with it and so attached to the characters that I must write something. This must be how those die-hard Harry Potter fans feel. In any case, it feels weird watching someone turns from a child to a grown man. Is this how parents feel? Karen o...

Three Books and a Movie. Book 57: The Face by Daniel McNeill. December 11, 2007 — threebooksandamovie. I picked up this book because I wanted to learn everything about face I hadn’t picked up myself in the many, many years I’ve seen faces. As it turns out, it covers a lot more than just faces. There’s history, psychology, and even philosophy, and I couldn’t stop reading this book once I started. I’ll definitely pick up some more books by the same author. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Write on with Miss G | A day in the life of a high school English teacher

Write on with Miss G. A day in the life of a high school English teacher. Are you working too hard? Let the students do the hard work with a Socratic Seminar! If you’re doing more work than the students, then you’re doing too much. The students should always be working harder than you. Although I recognized the value in this adage from a former professor, I never acknowledged it as a practical piece of advice. I thought it was one of those suggestions that sounded good…. My coworker, the doctor, walked fast past my office. he was obviously in a rush. The doctor: "i'll call you when i get back to my office and we'll get on the call.". Me: "where are you going? The doctor (already halfway down the hall): "the hospital.". Me (giggling): "are you okay? Do you need a ride? Do you need me to call anyone? Get ou...

write on, yo

Write on, yo. Friday, January 13, 2017. I went to starbucks* this morning. well, a different starbucks than i usually visit. i had to be sneaky at this other place. cars waiting in line at the drive through don't care about their asses hanging out into oncoming traffic. they ooze out of the driveway like druggies waiting for their fix. I wasn't going through the drive through, though. i was going to park like a human being and WALK in. Rude stuff like that. I said "sheesh" (pronounced " mother fucker").
