Sunday, March 1, 2009. 8221; He spins slowly in the air. What the hell have I gotten myself into. He thinks. Finally, feeling the rope tighten through the ascender, and mustering as much strength and sheer force of will, he draws his legs up underneath, grunting loudly, stepping down in his foot loop and drags the chest ascender up just a few more inches toward the surface…. For being a trip leader, I am setting one hell of an example …. We spotted the memorial plaque for Richard “Dick” Sanfo...Sites Cav...

After spending about an hour or so, it was to dinner at the Moat Mountain Brewery. Maker of their own microbrews (AWESOME! I might add) and they offer a wide variety of food ranging from vegan to meat lover's paradise. Then it was back home for some vegan pumpkin cake...

NortheastTromping: The Hunt for Punkintown
http://northeasttromping.blogspot.com/2012/02/hunt-for-punkintown.html
Tuesday, February 28, 2012. The Hunt for Punkintown. The demise of the town however began in the early 1900's. According to one record, a house fire in 1916 wiped out one house and the surrounding trees. Shortly thereafter, a tuberculosis outbreak in 1922 helped decrease the population and the last of the old houses burnt in the same year. Our second attempt was a touch more fruitful. We found several granite quarries, many filled with water, and most covered by secondary growth to the point that it ...

Wednesday, October 10, 2012. My Search for Floyd Collins. After about a mile and a bit of walking along the level road, two structures emerged in the grassy area in the woods and a broad smile wormed its way across my face. "Well look at that, its the old ticket building and the old Collins' homestead! This is what I was hoping to see on this particular walk. What brought us out here on the hottest day so far of the year to a rarely visited corner of the Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky?

Monday, March 11, 2013. Fort Dearborn and Battery Seaman. On Odiorne Point, just south of Portsmouth is Fort Dearborn. During WWI a temporary fire control station was constructed on Odiorne Point in 1917 for Battery Hunter at Fort Stark, located on the nearby island of New Castle; a year later the temporary battery was removed.
