Birding Axarquia: February 2015

http://birdingaxarquia2.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

With the Axarquia Birder. Saturday, 28 February 2015. PendulineTit at the Rio Velez. Cormoron Grande Phalacrocorax carbo. Still, it was a beautiful sunny morning and, at last, we have lost the strong winds of late - but for how long I ask myself? Parking up I was immediately greeted by a roosting Cattle Egret. With its white coat standing out against the greenery of the opposite bank. Wandering along immediately in front a single Little Ringed Plover. Followed by a Moorhen. But also Greater Ringed Plovers.

Birding Axarquia: Rio Velez, Torre del Mar and Frigiliana

http://birdingaxarquia2.blogspot.com/2015/08/rio-velez-torre-del-mar-and-frigiliana.html

With the Axarquia Birder. Sunday, 9 August 2015. Rio Velez, Torre del Mar and Frigiliana. Off to lunch with Steve and Elena Powell but time first for about an hour with Steve down at the Rio Velez. Our first visit to our local patch for about six weeks and what a difference. Everything seemed green and overgrown and even difficult to see where the river, if there was any water, should be. Yes, we had the resident Rock Doves. Drifting around but noticeable was the number of Barn Swallows. Flew upstream&#4...

Birding Axarquia: Forty Shades of Grey!

http://birdingaxarquia2.blogspot.com/2015/08/forty-shades-of-grey.html

With the Axarquia Birder. Saturday, 8 August 2015. Forty Shades of Grey! Thursday/Friday, 6 and 7 August. No, not some filleted female fantasy, rather the fact that Jenny and I spent Thursday evening and Friday staying with our friends Barbara and Derek in Alhaurin de la Torre (and, no that's not the fantasy either! Over the pool along with passing barn swallows and House Martins. Not to mention the growing numbers of Collared Doves. We will never know. But more luck with the Red-necked Nightjar. Photogr...

With the Axarquia Birder. Monday, 31 August 2015. Charca de Suarez, Motril. Quite cloudy when I collected Steve and Elena Powell for our onward journey to Motril and the Charca de Suarez. But no sooner over the Malaga border than the cloud clear to give a warm and sunny morning which seemed to become more humid by the minute. Papamoscas Gris Muscicapa striata. And a few House Sparrows. But we were soon amongst small charms of Goldfinches. And then a couple of posing Zitting Cisticolas. No sooner through ...

Birding Axarquia: Charca de Suarez

http://birdingaxarquia2.blogspot.com/2015/05/charca-de-suarez.html

With the Axarquia Birder. Wednesday, 13 May 2015. I took my Belgian friend, Marieke over the to the Charca de Suarez. Reserve last Saturday morning where we met up with Steve and Elena Powell - and also came across mick Richards and friends during our relatively short walk around the reserve. A beautiful warm and sunny day but, sad to say, not all that many birds but we did get good views of all the resident water fowl (save Water Rail) in Moorhen. Greeted by both Blackbirds. We also had a Little Bustard.
