Birding Azerbaijan: Mai 2012

http://birdingaze.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Birdwatching news and bird photography from Transcaucasia - by Kai Gauger and Michael Heiß. Dienstag, 22. Mai 2012. Text and Photos ©. The numbers of migrating birds decrease day by day and the end of the spring count is near. Seawatching produced a good day of migrating Arctic Skuas together with Common Terns. Two exhausted Arctic Skuas rested along the beach. One of them was already dying, so I checked the beach the next day for more birds, when I found eight (! Dead along the shore. A Hobby on the bea...

A beautiful male Pallid Harrier heading North. Campfire with friends from Baku and potatoes and sausages. After some ...

Birdwatching news and bird photography from Transcaucasia - by Kai Gauger and Michael Heiß. Donnerstag, 26. März 2015. Winter trip 2015. Greater Caucasus. K Gauger and M. Heiß. After the awful dump at Besh Barmag we drove via Quba into the Greater Caucasus in order to see a much nicer landscape. Our plan was to reach Xinaliq regardless the possible snow cover or expected cold temperatures high up in the mountains. Nobody of us has ever been there in winter, so we were pretty excited. The next morning sta...

Birding for a Lark: Tom Tarrant's 1990s Riyadh data

My Libyan list (182). Occasional birds in depth. My Saudi list (333) and targets. My Oman list (331). Tom Tarrant's 1990s Riyadh data. Below is an account of Ton Tarrant’s birding in Saudi Arabia. During 1992-1993. Most but no means all is from the Riyadh area. A second more recent report (but only for one week's birding in the month of March) of the Riyadh area can be found at. Http:/ www.osme.org/tripreports/qatar1.shtml. This also contains some very useful observations. Four days later whilst awaiting...

Birding for a Lark: Two more Amur falcon at Jarziz farm

http://birdingforalark.blogspot.com/2015/05/two-more-amur-falcon-at-jarziz-farm.html

My Libyan list (182). Occasional birds in depth. My Saudi list (333) and targets. My Oman list (331). Friday, 8 May 2015. Two more Amur falcon at Jarziz farm. I visited Jarziz farm early on Tuesday morning. The highlight was the presence of two more Amur falcon. And they were different birds from those days before making four I have seen there. Last time there were an adult male and an adult female. This time there was an immature male and what I believe was an immature female too. All winter in Salalah ...

Gone Pishing: March 2014

http://gonepishing.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 2 March 2014. Today I took a trip up to Namran to bird the coastal forest near the Russian border and hopefully find some wintering woodland birds. The woods are quite extensive and at this time of year devoid of people although the well worn paths and cafes closed for winter suggested that isn't always the case. The shore and sea were almost devoid of birds except for a few LWHG's but the mixed deciduous woodlands were fairly lively. Commonest birds were great tit. And a couple of jackdaw. Hajig...

Birding for a Lark: May 2015

http://birdingforalark.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

My Libyan list (182). Occasional birds in depth. My Saudi list (333) and targets. My Oman list (331). Thursday, 28 May 2015. Work is very busy at them moment so most birding is very local to home as this takes up less time. Jarziz farm is one of the closest sites. I have been visiting regularly not only because it is close but also to study the Amur falcon. Making their way through as much as I can before they are all gone for another season. They have not been the only birds of prey present. One of the ...

Birding for a Lark: A very hot day near Muscat

http://birdingforalark.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-very-hot-day-near-muscat.html

My Libyan list (182). Occasional birds in depth. My Saudi list (333) and targets. My Oman list (331). Monday, 18 May 2015. A very hot day near Muscat. I have had a bad cold for the last week and coupling that with my faithful old camera finally breaking, I have had to rest up for a few days. I now have a backlog of blogs to post but some good birds in places to report. A very young Hume's wheatear. Had been attracted to the shade. Young Hume's wheatear 2. In hot weather, birds continually hold their mout...

Friday, 31 May 2013. More avocets from Norfolk. You want some more avocet photos? Oh go on then. Thursday, 30 May 2013. Titchwell RSPB Reserve, Norfolk. Titchwell RSPB reserve is similar to nearby Cley reserve. Freshwater lagoons give way to brackish and salt lagoons closer to the sea but unlike Cley it also has a woodland area. A male blackbird in the woodland area. The rarer birds were represented by three little gull. On the brackish lagoon and single eider duck. Belated addition to my world list.

Gone Pishing: February 2014

http://gonepishing.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Friday, 28 February 2014. Although I didn't get out as much as I would have liked in February I did add Finsch's wheatear and white-tailed eagle to my life list which is now 1,025. My Azerbaijan list now stands at 129 although my year list is still a very slow 104. Bird of the month has to be the obliging white-tailed eagle that posed for photos on some ice at Red Lake. Sunday, 16 February 2014. Gobustan and the coast. South again and a couple of Azerbaijan ticks. First was r ed-crested pochard. I drove ...

I have a lot of observations written in my notebooks from my last deployment to Iraq (October 2009 to July 2010). Now I have an outlet where I can put them all. My lists on this blog are not too useful since they are static and the data cannot be manipulated. There was almost no data for Iraq, so I'll be entering mine. I encoura...
