Slow and Steady

Ramblings of an Idiot with a PhD. Mon, 02 Jul 2007 06:33:30 0000. My Novell Hack Week project: Implement support for Mono in Automake. This week was hack week. For all the Open Source hackers at Novell, where we got to work on ideas and projects that we were personally interested in. I decided to work on something that I've been planning for a long time, ever since I joined the Mono project, in fact: add support for Mono in Automake. Support for building Mono exes and dlls. Dependency tracking on sources.

Ramblings of an Idiot with a PhD. Sat, 25 Jun 2005 02:14:00 0000. I'm thinking of working on fixing Mono's Dictionary. It seems ironic: I wrote a large part of that Wiki page, and I'm in large part responsible for the dictionary code not being thread-safe. "Blame" me for the use of the move-to-front. Heurstic in the dictionary code, and I must say, it was a beautiful piece of code. See how simple it made the 'Remove()' code.

Ramblings of an Idiot with a PhD. Wed, 03 Aug 2005 08:26:00 0000. MCS: Implemented : -lookup (qualified alias member) feature. Today, I added my first "tick-mark" feature to Mono's C# compiler: qualified-alias-member or ': ' lookup. It's a relatively small feature, and doesn't impact much, code-wise.

Ramblings of an Idiot with a PhD. Thu, 19 Jan 2006 02:22:00 0000. Automake, make dist and long filenames. Harish noticed some strange behaviour. With 'make dist'. He later found out that it had to do with a file with an overly long pathname. Automake 1.9 by default forces 'tar' to work in the "most compatible" mode, and that mode supports pathnames only upto 99 characters long. AUTOMAKE OPTIONS = tar-pax. That gets us to mono's solution. Here's the configure.in tidbit that does the trick:.

HurryNot

Friday, August 10, 2012. The "Get-It"s and the "Don't-Get-It"s. So I'm getting pretty close to bailing on my day career (not day job, the whole career! I don't have the money to retire, nowhere even close (a couple failed startups along the way combined with unfortunate timing of the housing market crash have made sure of that). I'm certainly not broke, but I also can't retire at anything that looks like my current lifestyle level. I am jazzed about this! This description of my various friends is not at ...

Hurst Law Firm Blog

Thursday, June 24, 2010. Entity structure is one of the first decisions every new business must make. The decision you make will affect your business throughout its existence and even after the business has been sold or closed. Businesses today have more entity choices to select from than ever before. The primary disadvantages of a proprietorship are that there can only be one owner and that owner is typically subjected to all of the risks associated with the business. A proprietor can help minimize ...

This is getting rough. I can't take this anymore. Jersey passed away in June of this year and then today I get a text from Jayson while I am at work, "So I just found Yankee in the road hit by a car. He is dead." What the heck? September 7, 2009-October 5, 2012. Preston's words to Jayson and then to Katelynn, "I can't wait for Jesus to come back so I can see our dogs again". Where did the summer go? I had so many plans and things I wanted to do. Happy Belated 4th of July! Our darling 4 kids! Our Nurse Kr...
