Okra Hill Farm: The best time of year in South Carolina...
http://okrahillfarm.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-best-time-of-year-in-south-carolina.html
Growing a farm for our family. Monday, May 11, 2015. The best time of year in South Carolina. Our summer garden is planted and growing. Ashley attached a few pans in the corn to keep the crows from plucking out the replacements he replanted a few weeks ago. We typically don't put fencing around our corn- this is keep our puppies from tearing through the corn while chasing their best friend, our neighbor's lab. The blackberry vines are FULL. Definitely the raspberry bushes! Every day I thank God for bless...

Okra Hill Farm: Pickle time again!
http://okrahillfarm.blogspot.com/2015/06/pickle-time-again.html
Growing a farm for our family. Wednesday, June 3, 2015. I'm amazed out cucumber vines have already produced enough to make pickles (and for raw eating, too). Last year's garden didn't produce enough cucumbers for pickling so I'm doubly excited this time. I decided to make bread-n-butter pickles first because we eat a lot of these on BBQ sandwiches. I use the recipe from my Blue Book. Here's one of the last jars from 2013. I love our slicer. Covered everything in ice and let it sit for a while.

Okra Hill Farm: September 2014
http://okrahillfarm.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Growing a farm for our family. Sunday, September 14, 2014. It's a Grape Day for the Grape Press. First Ashley sprayed off the dust. The boys helped (they had been riding plasma cars which explains their helmets). And then the juice started to trickle out! After one press we decided the grapes had more juice in them. And we were right. Two gallons of grapes gave us a little over two quarts. We all tried a glass of fresh muscadine juice. Monday, September 1, 2014. The boys were pleased with this morning's ...

Okra Hill Farm: Overloaded after vacation
http://okrahillfarm.blogspot.com/2015/06/overloaded-after-vacation.html
Growing a farm for our family. Monday, June 15, 2015. I'm assuming those who came picked and gathered.but when we came home, we had a TON to gather.as in buckets and buckets of cucumbers, carrots and green beans. Levi (who turned 7! Today) is a great harvester and is so helpful in the garden. Ashley and I have made a point to not "make" our boys garden with us, instead seeing it as our hobby that we want them to enjoy along side of us. I hope they'll grow up to have gardens or farms of their own. We have...

Okra Hill Farm: July 2015
http://okrahillfarm.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Growing a farm for our family. Monday, July 6, 2015. Some of the summer garden dwindling down. I started this post a month ago.finally finishing it! It's been a hot July, with too many days having temps around 100. Even with irrigation, our garden has a hard time in the heat. Our cucumber vines are done. Ashley and I removed the hog panels that we use to train the vines. We'll let the vines dry up and then store the panels for another crop. My favorite use of peaches is for a cast iron skillet cobbler.

Okra Hill Farm: Down in the Okra Patch
http://okrahillfarm.blogspot.com/2012/08/down-in-okra-patch.html
Growing a farm for our family. Tuesday, August 28, 2012. Down in the Okra Patch. Have I mentioned how much we love okra? We didn't name our place Okra Hill Farm for nothing- this crop continues to produce. Although we're used to seeing these plants growing, most folks who visit our place for the first time always ask "Now, what's that growing right there? Pointing to the pretty pale yellow flowers. Okra is in the hibiscus family. Where the blooms are, an okra pod eventually arrives. Down in the Okra Patch.
