On second thought, maybe I should have stuck with the bobsled thing .). Feb 12th, 2010 at 1:02 PM. But, y'know . the Olympics start today. I do so love the Olympics, and as I will probably want to say something about something related to the Olympics over the next while, I thought it might be better to say something than simply break my silence with "Okay, what the hell was up with that last bobsled run? Come on, people! You have two jobs: running on ice, and NOT FALLING OUT OF THE SLED.". Feb 12th, 2010...

Writer: science fiction and fantasy, personal finance, and Esperanto. Adjusting my morning routine, maybe. The natural movement people I follow continue to broaden my perspective on what constitutes natural movement. Fairly recently, in her podcast, Katy Bowman pointed out that dilating and contracting the pupil of your eye is a natural movement. From in-the-woods-at-night dark to full-sun-at-midday light and most especially everywhere in between. Taking such an early morning walk would be a change to my...

Writer: science fiction and fantasy, personal finance, and Esperanto. Walking on the beach. Lake Michigan isn’t great for swimming the water is still pretty cold even in August, it’s kind of polluted, it lacks the extra buoyancy that comes from the salt in ocean water, and there’s no coral. But if what you want is a beach, Lake Michigan has a great one. Eight years ago my brother. Convinced me to come to St. Croix for a family reunion sort of thing. We stayed at Cottages by the Sea. I loved walking in th...

Writer: science fiction and fantasy, personal finance, and Esperanto. One of my Wise Bread posts at Business Insider. My latest Wise Bread post just showed up at Business Insider, with yet another new title: This One Key Rule Could Streamline Your Whole Life. Wise Bread called it The Simplest Way to Live Simply and Cheaply. My original title had been Simple Living, Simplified.). I was pleased with this one, so I’m glad to see it get some traction. It was also a shared activity with my brother, who was le...

Rappelling Off City Hall (in Three Days and Counting) - The Random Element
http://ksumnersmith.livejournal.com/80477.html
Rappelling Off City Hall (in Three Days and Counting). Jun 13th, 2010 at 10:59 PM. Jana and I went by City Hall. Rappelling from a twenty-eight storey building? We must be crazy. But it's an awesome sort of crazy. So here I am. Jana and I (aka Writers With Day Jobs. Made our fundraising target with the help and support of some truly amazing people. ($2,500 in a week and a half - and here we thought it impossible.) Three days to the rappel, and counting. I am genuinely terrified of this prospect. True...

Nov 6th, 2008 at 2:48 PM. I am writing a book, yes? Stupid book. I am currently convinced of the following things:. That this story is not going to pull together into a coherent ending. That, despite the fact that things have been connecting nicely, I’m going to drop one of the main threads and/or mess everything up, and end up with a conclusion that is in no way worth reading a whole book to reach. That no one will want to read about these characters for so very many words. In short, I have spent a mont...

Naming Another Year - The Random Element

Jan 1st, 2009 at 11:20 PM. The Year of Transformation truly lived up to its name. I know that 2008 was hard for many people, but oh, how I loved this past year. Over the course of those twelve months, I managed to make changes that took me from being a very unhappy, overstressed, exhausted and overwhelmed person, constantly angry as anger was the only thing that kept me from breaking down crying, to someone who is truly, honestly, and unequivocally happy. 4 comments Leave a comment. Strapping on the tool belt again - Wordswoman
http://wordswoman.livejournal.com/75187.html
Strapping on the tool belt again. Oday is Demolition Day in the downstairs half-bathroom. I'm removing the old ugly vanity in preparation for a prettier (and smaller) one to come. So far, with the help of this handy Lowe's how-to video. I've successfully unhooked the plumbing from the sink. Now taking a break to gather my nerve before trying to remove the vanity top and then the cabinet itself. Deep breath. Middot Leave a comment. On July 17th, 2011 05:46 am (UTC). FTC makes an ass of itself. October 5th, 2009. This interview with someone from the FTC demonstrates the ignorance of the FTC when it comes to book publishing and book reviewing:. The new rule, which you might have heard about, is regarding those who blog about items for which they receive review copies (books are only one of the types of material received and of course are a drop in the bucket compared to tech products:. Interview with FTC's Richard Cleland. 2009-10-06 04:28 am (UTC). I'm now having my ...
