Julie Learns Japanese - Ikimasho!: Miss America

http://www.julielearnsjapanese.blogspot.com/2013/01/miss-america.html

Julie Learns Japanese - Ikimasho! Thursday, January 3, 2013. I returned from Japan on Friday, October 26 at 9 am, nine hours before I left. (Time travel. It's amazing! My kids were in school and I had a few hours to acclimate. I didn't realize how fast Japan would recede once my children arrived home and once I stood balanced on two feet, planted in America again. Now, think, for a moment what date I arrived in America. October 26. What was coming up in the next 10 days? I wanted out of here. Fast&#4...

Julie Learns Japanese - Ikimasho! Thursday, November 1, 2012. My Last School Day at Yamasa. Of course, Chen-san and Ro-san and I had to have a final dinner and study evening together just before the test. It was always very hard for us to try to stay too serious for more than 30 minutes at a time. I made dinner this time (they had treated me to dinner the night before at their apartment). Peter plays Chopin in the Student Lounge. Our darling "Yukult" lady. I think some of the uneasiness, for me at least,...

Julie Learns Japanese - Ikimasho! Monday, November 14, 2011. First of all, I want to apologize for not having posted much here. I find it a larger responsibility than I imagined, in terms of time. I have to give up on the idea that there's actually going to be any great (or even more than mediocre) writing on this blog, and just do it! So I am officially taking the pressure off myself and thus, anyone viewing has the right to know that I won't be polishing these posts much. I just want to post something!

Julie Learns Japanese - Ikimasho! Wednesday, September 28, 2011. Watashi no haha (私のはは) means: My mother. In Japanese there are very many different ways to say mother, depending on who you are and what relationship you have with the woman who is someone's mother (possibly yours). Here's all the possibilities:. If you are talking to. Your mother, or are talking about another person's mother it is Okaasan (the O is always honorific) おかあさん which also looks like this in Kanji: お母さん. Anata ga inakute, samishi...

Things You May Have Missed: June 2014

http://seanagraham.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Things You May Have Missed. A brief description of poems, stories, essays and God knows what else that I've admired and thought worth mentioning. Monday, June 30, 2014. Adopt a black dog. I actually was quite upset to find that there may be some sort of discrimination against black animals when people are choosing pets. Or at least so says this recent Slate article. Admittedly, most of our pets came to us by happenstance rather than choice, but still- I don't remember wishing they were of some lighter hue.

Things You May Have Missed. A brief description of poems, stories, essays and God knows what else that I've admired and thought worth mentioning. Sunday, November 2, 2014. Ebola: Case vs. Case. I'm reviving this somewhat moribund blog to post about some things that need no comment from me. Or the comment lies in the fact that I post them. This one will be about a Slate piece on why one Ebola victim in the U.S. is talked about in a different way than another. Here you go. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Saturday, September 24, 2011. IT'S OK TO BE UNCOMFORTABLE? I came across the below card the other day and all my training finally made sense. A card that inspired me. Pretty much all my life I've resided in my "comfort zone". I like routine: I get up about the same time everyday, I eat the same breakfast and lunch, I workout in the morning and/or at midday, I go to bed at the same time each night. It's simple, it's nice, and it's comfortable. Don't get me wrong - I've pushed myself out of my comfort zone.
