This Vault of Heaven. The man, the beard, the Orthodox Christian Church. Thursday, November 27, 2008. In honor of popular Christmas imagery, I am dedicating this post to St Nicholas of Myra, the Christian directly associated with the figure Santa Claus. St Nicholas lived around 270 to 320 AD. He lived in a Greek speaking province of the Roman Empire that would now be located in modern Turkey. Although there are a variety of different stories surrounding his surreptitious. Peace and Dirt: Sugar and Spice
http://peaceanddirt.blogspot.com/2008/11/sugar-and-spice.html
Friday, November 28, 2008. I contend that my mom’s gingersnap recipe makes some of the best cookies in holiday circulation. Peace and Dirt: Tractorina
http://peaceanddirt.blogspot.com/2009/03/tractorina.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2009. So, today I learned how to drive the tractor. It was pretty easy, but it's something I'm proud to say now is part of my life. Basically, I had to move a whole lot of compost and dirt around, having something to do with planting peonies. Below are some peonies just coming up. They kind of look like strange mushrooms to me. In addition to flowers, there are a few animals here on the farm: a dog named Lady, two cats named Disco and Max, and a flock of chickens, 8 hens and one rooste...

This Vault of Heaven. The man, the beard, the Orthodox Christian Church. Monday, March 30, 2009. Sign of the cross. While reading a recent blog posting on Glory to God for All Things (http:/ fatherstephen.wordpress.com), I encountered an old bit of Syrian theology that had a really profound impact on the way that I understand the literal presence of the divine. According to this account, Syrian Christians have "traditionally believed that the. Wednesday, March 25, 2009. Luke 1:28). Truly. It is a day wor...

This Vault of Heaven. The man, the beard, the Orthodox Christian Church. Wednesday, December 24, 2008. Tied up in strings. So where do I go from here? I'll work something out, of course, but I know that it won't be as easy or functional as walking to St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox. I guess there are some conveniences associated with living in the city, and it's a trade-off for trees and meadows and honest-to-God teeming life. Regardless, I am home now, wishing you all a Merry Christmas. To tho...
