Nurse Education: International Council of Nurses - conference musings

http://www.nurseeducationrt.blogspot.com/2013/05/international-council-of-nurses.html

A forum for debate and discussion about the issues that are important for nursing education. Tuesday, 21 May 2013. International Council of Nurses - conference musings. I am currently attending the International Council of Nurses 25th Quadrennial Congress. In Melbourne (yes, I know how lucky I am). I attended the opening ceremony - a time for all countries represented in the ICN to be recognised. The ceremony really brought home to me the fact that the RCN has chosen to leave. Confirmed my view that educ...

A forum for debate and discussion about the issues that are important for nursing education. Thursday, 12 September 2013. A Monster Calls: Using literature in education. I went to NET2013. Network for Healthcare Education Conference) last week. There were good keynotes and many excellent presentations from colleagues from across the globe. I want to write about one of the sessions by Kate Powis. The need for all of us to talk to our children about loss, bereavement, death. Kate has invited me to go along...

Nurse Education: Learning through writing 1: Easing into Bourdieu

A forum for debate and discussion about the issues that are important for nursing education. Monday, 17 February 2014. Learning through writing 1: Easing into Bourdieu. Here goes. In my last blog I promised myself that I would write about areas of theory (or practice) that I feel that I need to know more about (that will be everything then! Today but am easing into my reading with a critique of this work (possibly the wrong way round to do this). The article's reference is:. What does the article tell us?

The Quirk on the Hill: November 2013

http://the-grumponthehill.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

The Quirk on the Hill. Saturday, November 16, 2013. Stories that need telling. I bought "The Other Side" by Kate Granger ( http:/ theothersidestory.co.uk/. Last week and read it in two gulps. It is a compelling read and it made me reflect on why I found it so gripping. Narrative research in nursing was very new and even service user views were still quite novel and no one seemed able to help me find a way of presenting my findings in a way that. No two are the same. Playing in the woods. Last week I had ...

The Quirk on the Hill: September 2013

http://the-grumponthehill.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

The Quirk on the Hill. Sunday, September 8, 2013. Poetry, compassion and nursing; some thoughts. This blog is a follow up to a tweet chat I was involved in a couple of weeks ago with. So the question asked is why is poetry so special? What is it about poetry that makes you brave enough to get a classroom of students/practitioners to read a poem in the expectation that they might get to discuss hopes, fears and aspirations in their practice? Century. Here is a link to. I really believe poetry can make a d...

The Quirk on the Hill. Wednesday, February 26, 2014. Making poetry : sharing learning 2. For the last 6 and half years I have been very fortunate to be the poet-in-residence at a local Hospice. The wonderfully generous staff and volunteers have allowed me to hone my poetry facilitation skills over the years and together we have written over 20 poems. With that in mind the team invited me to do “ your stuff with words”. I joined in with the exercises and immediately felt calmer about what I would do.

The Quirk on the Hill: Start with now

http://the-grumponthehill.blogspot.com/2015/04/start-with-now.html

The Quirk on the Hill. Saturday, April 11, 2015. I’ve been thinking a lot about not getting my PhD – think it is because it is 10 years since that dreadful day when my supervisors decided for me that they should put me out of my misery. The parting advice was to get a PhD via publication, that was it, a severance with no proper ending; not even a suggestion of a MPhil as a consolation. So I have decided to share my findings on this blog, and then that may start a discussion and help me move forward.

The Quirk on the Hill: May 2015

http://the-grumponthehill.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

The Quirk on the Hill. Saturday, May 23, 2015. Well, I was wary about blogging when I changed jobs and I was right to. I have now learnt that my honesty and candid accounts of my depression have come back to bite me. I am very, very sorry about what has happened and I am very sorry that it will mean that I no longer blog for the foreseeable future. I now regret disclosing where I worked on Social Media and I think that is a VERY important lesson for anyone to learn. The Quirk on the Hill.

The Quirk on the Hill: August 2013

http://the-grumponthehill.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

The Quirk on the Hill. Sunday, August 11, 2013. The idea about a book containing stories about nursing and nurses seems to be taking off. I now realise that it is important for me to explore my own story as well as encouraging others. I keep putting off writing anything on the page. I am not sure what I am scared of, maybe it is the worry that I haven't actually got anything interesting to say but if I am encouraging others to do the same then I ought to do it myself! I am interested in encouraging refle...
