Of Books and Blooms. If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." - Cicero. January 2, 2017. Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo. This book was a standout read in late November. A good one to read just prior to the Christmas season, to inspire me to serve who I can. Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity. National Book Award for Nonfiction (2012). Pulitzer Prize Nominee for General Nonfiction (2013). Content: There's some language, and ...

Of Books and Blooms. If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." - Cicero. I garden in zone 5b, in Eastern Washington, USA. Starting out front, we have the terraced flowerbeds:. This is the view from across the road. Both of these pictures were from July 10. The sod is new from this spring. We are trying valiantly to keep it alive! This entire hill used to be junipers and cottoneasters. I can't even tell you how happy these beds make me during the growing season. Believe it or not,...

Of Books and Blooms. If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." - Cicero. January 9, 2017. 2 LDS Fiction Titles: A Heart Revealed and Lord Fenton's Folly, by Josi Kilpack. Every so often I enjoy dipping into the world of Regency romances, particularly when I've got a lot going on in real life demanding thought, careful planning, or loads of time. They're totally candy reads, and at times, they are exactly what I want. There was a handful of overlapping characters between the two.

Of Books and Blooms. If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." - Cicero. January 11, 2017. Winterizing Your Mind, courtesy of Vivian Swift. I make my resolutions and goals, I put on multiple sweaters, I make soup. I put laminated snowflakes up on all the windows, just to give us all (me) something pretty and interesting to look at. Somehow I get through it every year, but not very gracefully. More like stoically. It was one of my Christmas presents, and I was so happy to see it!

Back to Prayer – That Mormon Lady
http://thatmormonlady.com/back-to-prayer
January 9, 2017. I sat in a beautiful testimony meeting yesterday. Some of the sweetest and simplest testimonies I’ve ever heard about prayer were shared. His heart was touched. Then some sweet little kids got up and shared about a time they had lost something, prayed for help to find it, and quickly found it. Which brought me around to this. That I wrote just about a year ago. I thought about how I’ve been doing (not perfectly) and then noticed that even though I may have yelled at God at some...He has ...

Of Books and Bicycles. Monday, January 01, 2007. You'll find me over at Wordpress. Okay, I'm moving my blog. You'll find me here. If you would, please update your blogrolls and feedreaders and whatever else. Thanks! Posted by Rebecca H. Links to this post. Sunday, December 31, 2006. Of Books and Bicycles. Sunday, January 1, 2017 · 11:01 pm. 2016 in Reading: Part 1. I am currently in the middle of a fairly lengthy holiday journey across the country to visit with family, so my usual round-up of my year in reading is late and will be quick. But I want to crunch all the numbers as usual, so here we go! Audiobooks: 6. I focused more on podcasts than audiobooks this year, which has been great, as I love podcasts … but I love audiobooks too. I wrote about this dilemma here. One each by aut...

Of Books and Bugs. Musings on the near at hand. June 13, 2015. June 13, 2015. Creeping Charlie in our yard, sprayed by our neighbor June 2015. Last year a newly married couple moved in next door. One of the first things they did was cut down trees, tear up their yard, and put down sod. Suggesting to the young man of the house the option of perennial grasses, he quipped that he’d really prefer concrete across the entire lot. But they’d be good for insects. So why, as a culture, do we do this? Everyone is ...
