Glenn and Carols Hiking Adventures. A Tree Full of Birds @ Prescott Park - How Many? Thursday, May 28, 2015. Big Tree - Mt Elijah - Bigelow Lakes Loop. May 25, 2015. A few weeks ago we had intended to drive down to the Oregon Caves National Monument. And do an all day hike consisting of the Big Tree trail. And the Mt Elijah - Bigelow Lakes loop trail. They were everywhere. By hikes' end we probably saw over 30 different varieties. We came across large patches of Yellowleaf Iris', Spring Beauty, a...Once ...

A Letter to my Daughter, Part II – alpinedon
https://alpinedon.wordpress.com/2014/12/12/a-letter-to-my-daughter-part-ii
December 12, 2014. A Letter to my Daughter, Part II. The famsters on the Angels Landing trail, in Refrigerator Canyon. This was during the worst period of chronic pain, as evidenced by my gaunt appearance. Zoe, Brook and Ryan on Mt. Bailey. Zoe on the way up Union Peak. Around that same time, you and your mom moved north to Portland, and my ability to see you on a weekly basis came to an end. This was probably the most difficult period we had faced, but again, we managed to stay close. A fun filled day c...

A Letter to my Daughter, Part IV – alpinedon
https://alpinedon.wordpress.com/2015/02/04/a-letter-to-my-daughter-part-iv
A Letter to my Daughter, Part IV. February 4, 2015. I know how difficult this move has been. Moving to a state where you didn’t know anyone, where the people have much different values than we do, would be difficult for anyone, but for someone already struggling with the massive changes of a thirteen-year old girl, it made for a very troubling transition. You have to tell us what you are feeling, no matter how dark or painful those feelings might be. That is the only way we can get through this. You are ...

A Letter to my Daughter, Part III. December 15, 2014. She called you a slut(even though you are a virgin). She told you you were ugly and that no boy would ever want you. She insulted and dragged you down. Then she would lie about it to your mom and say you were making things up. I didn’t know any of this was happening until it was almost too late. Richard Hikes: Harriette Lake
http://richard-hikes.blogspot.com/2015/06/harriette-lake.html
Saturday, June 13, 2015. And we'd freeze in place. Or we'd point at a stump and say "Look, it's another hiker! Lane and I are easily amused and will work the same joke over and over for weeks at a time, unlike Stump Guy. Unlike some of our fellow hikers too, I might add. Lake Como and Whiteface Peak (not named after me! This particular Lake Como was not the famed Italian lake of note, but is instead a small body of water in Oregon's Mountain Lakes Wilderness. First look at Harriette Lake. Early the next ...

Richard Hikes: May 2015
http://richard-hikes.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 30, 2015. After a camp meal, grandsons Daweson, Issiah, and your merry blogster went for an after-dinner walk around pristine Baker Beach Dunes. On the dunes, we ran into a hiking couple doing the same thing from the nearby car campground. During the exchange of pleasantries, my two young charges puffed out their chests and with a great deal of pride Daweson blurted out "We're hiking! No," corrected his younger sibling "we're backpacking! On their first Richard Backpack. A darn fine sunset.

Richard Hikes: March 2015
http://richard-hikes.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 29, 2015. The night before, Dollie and I had gone to Eugene for a Kitty, Daisy, and Lewis. Concert. By the way, here's my plug: Great band! Since we rolled into into Winston around 2 AM with ears still buzzing from the show, it made for a late start for the next day's hike. Gotta get my beauty rest, you know. Because of the much needed sleep-in, it stood to reason it'd have to be a short drive to do a short hike and Pine Bench. Spring fed water for your health. What a bushwhack looks like.

Richard Hikes: Buck Canyon
http://richard-hikes.blogspot.com/2015/06/buck-canyon.html
Saturday, June 6, 2015. It seems like just a month ago that I visited Buck Canyon. Oh wait, I did. A moldy gray blanket of a meadow. At any rate, we started our hike at the Hummingbird Meadows Trailhead and the first series of meadows were colored an odd gray color due to a thick carpet of flowering blue-eyed Mary. The blue-eyed Marys are half blue and half white but when combined in mass, the net result visually is a moldy gray blanket of a meadow. I'm not falling for that! Gawkery at Hummingbird Meadows.
