Is the way I run. The more painful moments of my life,. Fuel my need to be outside,. Feed my drive to crank my legs on the trails,. Because al...

Running for Bacon: October 2011

Sunday, October 2, 2011. Delivering My First 50k. For me, running a 50k for the first time was a little like being pregnant—I was looking forward to it more before it actually happened, I spent way too much energy just trying to stay upright, and at a certain point I just wished like hell it was already over. Near the beginning of the trail. My husband and I chose the Baker Lake 50k. One of the numerous bridges. Me leading the way over a river crossing in the mist. We agreed that we would both run our ow...

Running for Bacon: Six Miles of Truth
http://runningforbacon.blogspot.com/2009/10/six-miles-of-truth.html
Thursday, October 8, 2009. Six Miles of Truth. A posse ad esse, from possibility to actuality. Twenty-six weeks ago I started training for a marathon; this week I completed one. I'm not quite sure how to feel about the whole thing other than being convinced that I will run another one and probably several shorter races in between. For lack of a more creative introduction, here is how the race went:. I had to pee again. I couldn't believe it! I'd already peed four times more frequently than I had during m...

Running for Bacon: How a PR Really Feels
http://runningforbacon.blogspot.com/2011/07/how-pr-really-feels.html
Friday, July 8, 2011. How a PR Really Feels. As the race day wisdom goes, no new is good new. I highly recommend it) has neither coffee makers nor microwaves in the rooms (The Moore —. This whole coffee thing feeds into my race strategy: Start slow, never waste a downhill and avoid port-a-potty stops. I started out with my fast. Oddly enough, I have mixed feelings about meeting my goal. I didn't leave everything on the course. As they say, and so I am left with the feeling that I could have done better&#...

Running for Bacon: February 2011
http://runningforbacon.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 25, 2011. My first 50k didn't turn out too well; in fact, it turned out to be a 25k. I could tell you it was due to the crazy course conditions, but the real reason is that I was over-confident and under-prepared. Pure awesome. (But not for running.). Like this all the way up to my hips. (And this is after I scraped my shoes! My head ( My ride is at the finish line; I have to get there somehow, so it might as well be running! And my body ( I’m so tired! I’m in so much pain!
