Wednesday, November 12, 2008. Two enlightening conversations with a Kindergartner at my school:. Him: Um, excuse me, but are ghosts real? Me: What do you think? H: I think they are just real in your head. I don't believe in ghosts. H: But I believe in god. And I believe in skeletons cuz they're inside your body. M: Ok That's good. He nods with satisfaction and walks away.). Me: What are you drawing? Him: It's me playing. It's what I like to play when I'm alone. M: What is that coming out of your neck?

"Uncle" Travelling Mel: True Challenges; a lesson from the mountain

http://uncletravellingmel.blogspot.com/2008/11/true-challenges-lesson-from-mountain.html

Sunday, November 2, 2008. True Challenges; a lesson from the mountain. I went on a very strenuous and rewarding 9 mile hike today. It was an intense uphill climb, followed by an obstacle course-like rock scramble across the top of the ridge, and finally a long, winding down slope. Shortly into the downhill climb, my body starting communicating with me for the first time that day. "Melanie," it said, "what do you think you're doing? Just to be clear about its disagreement with this sentiment, my body cont...

"Uncle" Travelling Mel: Family

http://uncletravellingmel.blogspot.com/2008/09/family.html

Saturday, September 27, 2008. I need a family. I don't mean I want to get married and have children, or that I want to move back home and live with my parents. I mean, I need to have people (or at least a person) in my life who I know loves me and knows me no matter what. Isn't that what family is for? I can't. Of course he needs to do that. He's a great father. But it's just another example of the backseat I take in someone else's life. September 28, 2008 at 8:37 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

"Uncle" Travelling Mel: egg dreams

http://uncletravellingmel.blogspot.com/2008/09/egg-dreams.html

Tuesday, September 23, 2008. After just finishing one of the most painful, life- interrupting. Menstrual periods of my life, I have been thinking a lot about what it means to be a woman. But this really got me thinking. What is this thing that happens to us females every month? You want a baby! Here is an egg for your baby! Go find a sperm and make a baby! Baby, baby, baby! Did I just say I wanted a baby? Oh Mel, I feel for you. I remember begging my mom to let me stay home from school when I had my ...

"Uncle" Travelling Mel

http://uncletravellingmel.blogspot.com/2008/10/this-piece-of-writing-is-not-from-me.html

Thursday, October 2, 2008. Josh is my older brother. He's a sophomore in high school, and that means he has a lot of homework! So that means he has less time to see me! And now he has soccer every day after school, so I have even less time to see him. But when I do see him it's one of the best things! You know I LOVE this entry! October 2, 2008 at 4:44 PM. I'm so glad you appreciate it! October 2, 2008 at 7:51 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Washington, DC, United States. View my complete profile.

Stuff I think about when I'm sleep deprived. Sunday, January 30, 2011. There's a reason policies are set in place. Temptation is not a reason to ignore them. Quite the opposite, actually. Posted by Dazhou @ 5:14 PM. Saturday, January 03, 2009. Iggy's Restaurant in Singapore. On to the food. That is the ultimate measure of a restaurant, after all. Photos courtesy of one of my dining companions. Foie Gras. The classic preparation of pan-fried foie gras on toast was executed well. The slightly more ...Spann...

On the TransAm Trail

On the TransAm Trail. Saturday, June 26, 2010. They let me have another hour so here it is:Whine,Whine, Whine. Moan. It think we were lost on the way to Harodsburg from Berea. There was a beautiful pool in Harodsburg, with a huge slide. But we arrive only 24 minutes before thay closed and only had time to take a shower. We camped under a shelter, which was quite nice, since the tents are dry instead of being covered by dew. Oh yes! Foure days of drudgery and we are here, in Carbondale. Tomorrow, I pl...

Dom's Travels 2004 - 2005. Wednesday, March 09, 2005. Click here to see what I've been up to since March 2005. It's an old Jacques Brel song and it's also where I am headed. I'm going for a job and if I get it, I'll be there for a year or more. I had a phone interview about a week ago and then got on a plane to Fiji, first stop on the way home. You can find the rest of my Fiji pictures here. I'm in San Francisco now, in the lobby of a hostel using a wireless internet connection on my laptop. There ar...

Stuck in Korea

Thursday, July 05, 2007. Well Summer's here in Sokcho. Monday morning, blazing sunshine. All the way through to Friday afternoon, then it's miserable drizzly-type rain till sunset on Sunday. Just like last Summer, except without the landslides and death. Oh, if you don't read the news, lots of people died in Korea last year because of landslides. and death, which is the number one killer of people all over the world. I read it in a book. So, what else can I say about life here in Sokcho? Somewhere out th...

Nexus of Mediocrity BLOG. Goto the NOM Tech Blog. Goto the real Nexus of Mediocrity homepage. Thursday, September 20, 2007. Fixed my ubuntu boot problem. Installed Feisty Fawn Xubuntu (and above) on a Toshiba 325CDS. It kept hanging at the initramfs prompt. Basically it apparently wasn't loading the ide-generic module. Because at the prompt i was able to type. After the modprobe you could then ls /dev/disk which has all the new UUID stuff i guess. Anyway, after the "exit" the boot continued normally.
