The 10.0 Brix Tomato Challenge | The Beautiful Taste
http://jonrowley.com/2010/09/06/tomatochallenge
8230;somebody who is a master of the perfect ingredient at the perfect time. Ruth Reichl. Umami the beautiful taste. Judging the Apple Pie Contest at Piper Orchard →. The 10.0 Brix Tomato Challenge. September 6, 2010. The late Emmett Watson. Long time columnist and Seattle culture chronicler for the Seattle P-I and then the Seattle Times, railed until his death against the inadequacy of local tomatoes. For the past three weeks I have been stalking farmer’s markets looking for great tomatoes, really...

Flavors, stories and snapshots from travels along the wanderlust road. Scenes from Terra Madre. This entry was posted on November 6, 2010, in slow food. It’s taken me some time to get to posting about Terra Madre. Terra Madre was made up of over 5,000 representatives from 160 countries. A new friend from Benin, Africa - Pascal Gbenou, a rice farmer, advocate, president of the Conseil de Concertation des Riziculteurs du Bénin - and teller of good stories. Carlo Petrini, founder of Slow Food International.
Stops & starts along the journey to Terra Madre | Wanderlust Road

Flavors, stories and snapshots from travels along the wanderlust road. Stops and starts along the journey to Terra Madre. This entry was posted on September 9, 2010, in culinaria. It’s something I’ve told myself I should attend regardless of what it takes to get there –. The cost, the time away from work, etc. 8211; to convincing myself that it can wait another two years (and hoping that it will indeed continue)… and all the way back again. What’s all this about? Carlo Petrini speaking at Terra Madre.
Four Months From Paris | arte de vivre
https://artedevivre.wordpress.com/2011/01/30/four-months-from-paris
Laquo; last day in paris. Four Months From Paris. January 30, 2011 by artedevivre. Do I feel more blissful, more sustained, more in touch with who I am? I really don’t know. So why doesn’t all that fluttery-in-your-gut, in-your-bones, in-your-heart, desire, wonder, fearlessness, open-to-anything mindset stick with you forever once you’ve returned? How do we let ourselves fall back into the daily grind, the routine, the stress, the annoyances, the sub-par level of satisfaction with our daily lives? You ar...

Habanero Marmalade - Mild. Habanero Marmalade - Hot. Habanero Marmalade - Super Hot. Poem from a Friend. 8203; My friend Matthew Fleming, an English Instructor at Cuesta College, was inspired to write a poem as a review. Ode to My Love, Senorita Beak. The moment our beaks met,. I knew we were in trouble. It was the kind of trouble that was very delicious. And very, very spicy. We shared morning toast together. In the afternoon, we walked the beaches-. You, me, and some homemade pretzels for dipping-.

Me and Mr. Pants: Me and Mr. Pants in Italy!
http://meandmrpants.blogspot.com/2014/01/me-and-mr-pants-in-italy.html
Me and Mr. Pants. Saturday, January 4, 2014. Me and Mr. Pants in Italy! These iPhone photos cannot do Italy justice. The hills are closer, the sky more vibrant, you can't smell the river and the rain coming in Verona, or the dark grapes on Piedmont vines, or watch your feet, in their modern shoes, walk on old stones that millions have walked on for centuries. We liked Turin. The land of Visigoths, Vermouth and Nutella, was full of narrow streets, grand old squares and cafes under porticos. The Piedmont i...
Me and Mr. Pants: July 2013
http://meandmrpants.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Me and Mr. Pants. Thursday, July 25, 2013. Chicago: Elevating the cocktail at The Aviary. Took a long weekend to visit Mom and Chicago. I love that city. You would too, if you like leafy-green side streets, gorgeous modern and not so modern architecture, 26 miles of public, beachy lakefront and museums and culture galore. Oh and eating and drinking. I wasn't about to leave town without trying The Aviary. No sidling up to the bar and chatting up the bartender here, nothing so uncivilized. We were led to a...

Me and Mr. Pants: The Whale Wins
http://meandmrpants.blogspot.com/2013/05/the-whale-wins.html
Me and Mr. Pants. Friday, May 10, 2013. Renee Erickson has done it again with The Whale Wins. It's full of homespun elegance, just this side of precious, with servers in striped aprons, a massive bouquet of pink tulips at the door, and spare but pretty decor. A wood-fired oven lends warmth to the room, and flavor to your meal. They take no reservations for smaller parties, and are excruciatingly popular, so prepare to wait a hell of a long time at peak hours. Chilly cocktails on the chilly front deck.
